The Seclusion Jacqui Castle Books

A longer review is forthcoming, but I wanted to get ahead of it — The fact that it was written before Trump was president makes the author a soothsayer in my book. The only question I have after reading it is whether I should refer to the novel as dystopian since its world bears so much similarity to present times.

The Seclusion Jacqui Castle Books Reviews

Unfortunately too many people wish this book were nonfiction. I loved it. No criticisms
has become a totalitarian hermit kingdom, surrounded by walls. Two people attempt to flee, learning ugly secrets about how their world came to be. I have issues with both this society and the world beyond it.
A really great first story, this author may go far. The ending suggests that a sequel may be in the works, but the book is quite satisfactory as a stand-alone.
This book is reminiscent of both 1984 and Brave New World--my first introductions to dystopian novels. It is well thought out and the characters are people I cared about. It was interesting to watch the awakening in the mind of Patch, as she became aware of the realities of her society. I recommend this book to both young adults and adults.
What a great novel! I love the main character Patricia (Patch), her family, and friends. The way that she comes to realize the harsh truths about her world was beautifully rendered. The world of 2090 in this book seems all too possibly to happen in our very near future. This new take on dystopian literature deserves many readers. Jacqui Castle has great talent, and I hope she writes and publishes a sequel so I can know what happens next and continue this journey.
Read this while on a dystopia kick, and this one was truly terrifying. It was shocking to see how well this possible future was extrapolated from the present. Patch is believable as someone who has always lived in this world, and yet still has a spark that longs to learn more, once her eyes are open. I'm really looking forward to the sequel. This is a book that lingered in the back of my mind for a long time.
My husband Stephen, doesn’t have his own account, so I let him use mine. Not always the best idea. He heard the author interviewed on NPR Wednesday afternoon and we bought it that evening as it was being released. We have both read the book.

Stephen's Review "He is a distopian fiction fanatic except, though placed in 2090, it borders on today’s political reality! Its a page turner. He has already recommended it to family and friends."

Patrice's Review "While I enjoyed the book for the most part, I became a little bored during the 'quest' part of the book. The main character was a little under developed, ie, I didn't have much buy-in for her success. I was also left feeling the book was unfinished. No real conclusion, although, I have noticed a trend in the first book in a series tries to set up the sale of another book to continue the story. I would give it a 3 star, not the 5 star Stephen's selected."
A longer review is forthcoming, but I wanted to get ahead of it — The fact that it was written before Trump was president makes the author a soothsayer in my book. The only question I have after reading it is whether I should refer to the novel as dystopian since its world bears so much similarity to present times.
