Out of the Shadows A Bishop/Special Crimes Unit Novel Kay Hooper Books
If you can ignore the dumb stuff, this book is pretty good. I didn't feel there was a tremendous effort on the part of the author to create very deep characters, but the story was interesting. What I would have liked, is if the author had done some research on forensics and criminal profiling. You read all the way through this book, digesting the bits of ridiculous and then you get to the end and scratch your head. With the disgusting crimes this killer committed, the profile she created didn't fit. There are many books available on the subject of criminal profiling, perhaps she should have checked one out. In this case, the motive didn't fit the crime. If it don't fit you must acquit!Tags : Amazon.com: Out of the Shadows: A Bishop/Special Crimes Unit Novel (9780553576955): Kay Hooper: Books,Kay Hooper,Out of the Shadows: A BishopSpecial Crimes Unit Novel,Bantam,055357695X,Mystery & Detective - Police Procedural,Mystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,Thrillers - Supernatural,Bishop, Noah (Fictitious character),Government investigators,Mystery fiction,Policewomen,Serial murders,Sheriffs,Suspense fiction,Tennessee,Adventure thriller,Crime & mystery,FICTION Mystery & Detective Police Procedural,FICTION Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,FICTION Thrillers General,FICTION Thrillers Supernatural,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,Fiction,Fiction - Espionage Thriller,Fiction-Mystery & Detective,FictionMystery & Detective - Police Procedural,FictionThrillers - Suspense,MASS MARKET,MysterySuspense,Thrillers - General,Thrillers - Suspense, mystery; fiction; paranormal; suspense; romance; romantic suspense; shadows trilogy; psychic; fbi; thriller; bishop; psychics; detective novels; detective; detective fiction; hard boiled; hardboiled; detectives; police procedurals; investigators; law enforcement; suspense crime detective; cop; mystery detective; thrillers; mystery books; crime; mystery suspense; crime books; suspense books; crime fiction; mystery thriller; mystery and thrillers; mystery thrillers; mystery and suspense; crime novel; crime thriller; mystery fiction, mystery;fiction;paranormal;suspense;romance;romantic suspense;shadows trilogy;psychic;fbi;thriller;bishop;psychics;detective novels;detective;detective fiction;hard boiled;hardboiled;detectives;police procedurals;investigators;law enforcement;suspense crime detective;cop;mystery detective;thrillers;mystery books;crime;mystery suspense;crime books;suspense books;crime fiction;mystery thriller;mystery and thrillers;mystery thrillers;mystery and suspense;crime novel;crime thriller;mystery fiction,FICTION Mystery & Detective Police Procedural,FICTION Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,FICTION Thrillers General,FICTION Thrillers Supernatural,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,FictionMystery & Detective - Police Procedural,FictionThrillers - Suspense,Thrillers - General,Thrillers - Suspense,Fiction - Espionage Thriller,Fiction,MysterySuspense,Adventure thriller,Crime & mystery
Out of the Shadows A Bishop/Special Crimes Unit Novel Kay Hooper Books Reviews
This is the third book about Bishop, and the reader following the series can now see the beginnings of a very unique FBI unit. In both Stealing Shadows and Hiding in the Shadows there is mention of something or someone that Bishop has been searching for, for a very long time. In Out of the Shadows, he finally finds her. Miranda Knight is so much more to him than the one who got away. She is the one he let down, the other half of his heart, the one he needs to make amends with, the one who can complete him. If only she would let him in.
What Bishop did to let Miranda down affected not only her, but her little sister, Bonnie. It's immediately clear that Miranda may have been willing to forgive and forget the wrongs done to her, but hurting her baby sister, putting Bonnie's life in danger was unforgivable. So she left. She ran far and fast and then put such a heavy layer of protection around herself and her sister that Bishop had virtually no chance of ever getting to her, until she let him. And it takes a vicious serial killer for her to be willing to let him find her.
The terror stalking her town is like nothing she has ever seen. A monster snatching people and cruelly torturing them, then leaving them on horrific display for all to see. Miranda hasn't been able to find and stop this killer on her own, and knows that she will need additional help. More than that, she's a powerful psychic whose abilities have told her, in no uncertain terms, that it must be Bishop who aids her. Those abilities also tell her, in equally certain terms, that someone will die when he does.
This is a truly masterful tale. The characters are so amazingly real and recognizable. The science behind each person's actions, abilities, attitudes is so honest and real, the story jumps off the page. And just when you think the story has concluded, there's yet more twists to make you hover on the edge of your seat.
Such a fantastic read. Best of all, for me, was the way the story ended, in such a way that creates excitement and anticipation for the next book in the series without doing so with a cliffhanger. I'll say it plainly, I absolutely detest cliffhangers, but Kay Hooper has yet to leave me hanging. )
I am at a loss for words. Hiding in the Shadows is the second book in Kay Hooper’s Bishop/Special Crimes Unit Series. From the first page, the story is action-packed at a pace that doesn’t slow until the final ten to fifteen percent. Like the first book, the key players have the gift of extrasensory perception. In this book, instead of being in the killer's mind, Faith is in the victim's head.
Dinah Leighton is an investigative reporter hot on the trail of a major scandal. Faith Parker is Dinah’s close friend and in a coma after a suspicious accident then Dinah goes missing shortly before Faith comes out of her coma. Faith has a severe case of amnesia. Faith has dreams of Dinah and Kane MacGregor but she is not sure who they are until she sees Kane on the news asking for help to find his fiancée who is missing.
Hiding in the Shadows is full of tension and anxiety. While reading, I suspected every character of being the kidnapper. Bishop, the psychic FBI agent, is a close friend of Kane and Dinah’s. His role in this book is liaison with the local police and some investigative work from Quantico. However, as in the first book, Bishop is not the central focus of the story.
So…what happened? For me, the ending took me from a believable psychic experience to an anti-climactic, unbelievable ending. A story that kept me expecting that every character could be the “bad guy”; hoping the rescuers would get to the crime scene in time to rolling my eyes until I got a headache. I can’t give too much information without revealing the final twist, but it didn’t work for me. This ending took a solid four to five-star story to nothing more than an OK read. I’m sure there are many readers of paranormal who will buy into the conclusion, but it didn't work for me at all.
I’m also disappointed that Hooper continues to dangle Bishop at the reader without giving him a decent storyline. Regardless, the story held my interest through most of the book, so I will give the next one in the series a try in the hope that we will get to know Bishop finally. If that doesn’t happen, I’m not sure I will continue with the series.
If you can ignore the dumb stuff, this book is pretty good. I didn't feel there was a tremendous effort on the part of the author to create very deep characters, but the story was interesting. What I would have liked, is if the author had done some research on forensics and criminal profiling.
